"Hot spots" indicate areas of bone abnormality that may indicate tumors, although they can also be due to other causes such as arthritis. No preparation is required and the test is easy. The main problem is lying still on a hard table for 15 minutes. This test can help determine if cancer has spread to the bones, if therapy is working and if damaged bony areas are healing.
